Community Member Profiling ToolThis is a featured page

The dialog with individuals in the community are captured using a community member profile (CMP) – a sample template is shown below.

The CMP captures the direct interaction with the individual in a structured format that enables future analysis. CMP’s contain not only the specific dialog (e.g. quotes) of an engagement but also the tacit knowledge that facilitates the analysis phase.

Sections of the CMP

The CMP is composed of a number of distinct sections. The first is a facilitation guide that provides the interviewer a framework for an interview. The facilitation guide is shown below.

The next section of the CMP captures the two-way perceptions of both the individual and the organization doing the investigation. This perception involves both the organization's perception of the individual and the individual's perception of the organization and the 'innovation'. It is important to see both perspectives.

Community Member Profile Perception Assessment

The next section of the CMP contains the detailed notes of the interview. These should be captured in real-time as the interview is happening. The raw conversation is classified into several categories, either as the interview is occurring or after the interview is over when the notes are being reviewed.

Commuity Member Profile Notes

The detailed engagement notes can be quite extensive. The figure above shows the ways that the specific statements of the interviewees should be categorized. It is important to extract from the interviews specific needs and desires that are exposed through both explicit questioning as well as through stories, metaphor elicitation and latent observation. These elicitation methods are described elsewhere in this Wiki.

A final component of the CMP is the summary information where the role and nature of the individual being interviewed is captured. The following figure shows the different categories for an individual. This information is important in order to understand the community and insure diversity.
