David Galenson in his book on the evolution of creativity in artists "old masters and young geniuses" observed that if after a demonstration of a new artistic insight, all art thereafter was changed, then that demontration was an innovation. In other words, novelty was not enough. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Picasso famously said, "Good artists copy, great artists steal". This was after he painted Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, a painting that 30 years after it was painted was recognized by MOMA as the turning point in modern art. The painting was certainly novel, and it was innovative - it created new value for the consumers of art. When this painting changed our perspective, we became 'consumers' of the new 'technology' of art. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
